I don't know how much everyone knows about this and/or how close everyone is following it, but it looks like the Missouri House of Representatives passed House Bill 213, the so-called "Emily Brooker Intellectual Diversity Act," today. For more context, here is a story from The Missourian, here is another one from The Columbia Daily Tribune, and then here is one more from The Maneater.

Rest in peace Kurt Vonnegut.

This bit from the Maneater seems like a rather likely interpretation (at least from my frothing, leftist perspective):
“It is part of a larger movement among the extreme right in a lot of different fronts to try to have a witch hunt, if you will, within academia,” Johnson said.
Johnson said universities and colleges are among “the few institutions where people are in a position to be able to critically analyze people with power.”
